Abstract

|
|
The author studied pathological effects of thyroidectomy and oral administration of thyroid preparations on hepatic damage, and regeneration and repair process subsequent to hepatic damage in albino rats given carbon tetrachloride with the following conclusions.
(1) In thyroidectomized rats hepatic damage, particularly hepatic cell necrosis, induced by carbon tetrachloride tended to be less.
(2) The thyroidectomy induced a tendency oflesser regeneration of the hepatic cells following the hepatic damage.
(3) With the thyroidectomy, fibrotic or cirrhotic canges due to carbon tetrachloride intoxication tended to be less.
(4) With an administration of thyroid preparation (Thyroid, Crinos Co., Italy), no adequate compensation of the thyroidal function was obtained, and a tendency of congestion and homonhage in the liver and lungs was found.
